So, you left the Party—now what?

Join us for a lively, minimal-nonsense gathering where we’ll figure out how to start moving forward, and learn how to use Decidim platform to organize like (the) pros (they definitely don't say we are). Expect a mix of structured activities, deep-and-possibly-meaningful discussions, and just enough facilitation to keep us from going off the rails. This isn’t a gripe session—get a breakout room—it’s a chance to start build something good, with people who can't really help but get great stuff done. Come for the strategy, stay for the camaraderie (and maybe a little chaos).

Date, time and link TBA

Proposed Meeting Agenda

Creating the space [10:00 - 10:05]

  • Practice

    • Lean speech (i.e. try not to hog the mic, yet say what needs to be said, without going on and on and on)

    • Seek good enough, safe enough agreements (i.e. perfection is not our friend) by asking ‘is this good enough for now and safe enough to try?’

    • Artful Participation (i.e. stand for equitable collaboration), including in chat

  • Consent to Facilitator: Michael

  • Record meeting?___ (is it clear what for?)

  • Scribe: ____ (is the role clear? Can AI do it?)

Check-in (Natalie) [10:05 - 10:15]

Prompt (TBD)

...

Purpose

To check in, briefly disclose something about what’s up for you and how you are, revealing thoughts, feelings, distractions or needs. Check-ins can also be a thought-provoking question to the team.

Rules

Members can pass if they choose. Speak in a round; discourage conversation. Name who goes after you first so they are primed for their moment at the mic.

Objective

Everyone feels welcome and prepared to contribute to the effectiveness of the meeting.

[10:15 - 10:15]

Nine Whys — Making our purpose more clear (Michael) [10:15 - 10:45]

Nine Whys is a liberating structure

A participatory exercise to make the purpose of our work together more clear.

  • 2-4-All pattern (requires breakouts)

  • Pair: Keep asking why, 5 mins each

  • Quad: share insights round,  10 mins

  • All: How does our purpose influence the next steps we’ll take, 5 mins

Objective

Rapidly clarify for individuals and a group what is essentially important in this the work we may do.

Decidim walk-through (Laurence & John (gagged)) [10:45 - 11:00]

Ideas on how to use our new instance of Decidim

Objective

Group has a good sense of where we're progressing, where we’re stalling, and what might need changing.

Driver discovery (Michael) [11:00 - 11:10]

Purpose

Introducing an async activity for discovering tensions that matter most to each of us. There will be homework!

Objective

The group is clear on their homework, has clarity on how to fill out the form effectively.

Closing Retrospective (Michael) [11:10 - 11:15]

Prompt: What did you notice about this meeting?

  • Observations worth noting

  • Celebrations worth raising

  • Actionable improvement? (record any as potential action items)

Purpose

Briefly go around to harvest insights about the quality of the meeting format, structure, process (not the content).

Objective

To build our continuous improvement chops and evolve even better meeting practices.

Meeting Minutes

  • We used 9 Whys liberating structure, and breakout groups to explore why each of us is motivated to be involved.

  • John gave a demonstration of our new Decidim website instance.

  • Michael introduced the concept of driver summaries and then assigned each participant homework to use the input form to submit at least 3 summaries in time for our next meeting.
