Part 1 — Natalie & Michael wish to spark a conversation
Confirmed by our discussions last week, we know we care about the same things, we work well together, and we respect each other. We believe we’re capable of meaningful work together—but what is our cause?
This is often where groups can get stuck in endless circles of discussion. At the same time, we feel it’s important to begin doing—even if we haven’t yet defined our strategic mission or end goal.
So, how do we navigate this ‘start-up’ phase—the foggy, uncertain, yet highly potent period of exploration?
It’s possible that not everyone will feel compelled to engage in the same way at this point. That’s okay. Our intention is to create sufficient constraints to hold us together as a group, while still allowing individuals the autonomy to lean into areas that align with their interests and strengths.
Part 2 — 'Chartering' as a way to establish guardrails
Michael will introduce the concept of “Charters” as a proven method for creating the container within which teams and organizations function effectively.
Please take a look at this Charters Agreement template ahead of time, to better understand the function of both ‘Chartering’ and forming agreements together (governance). Then, during the session we'll look at a blank 'Charter' template, and you’ll have the opportunity to choose a specific parameter and join a breakout group to draft the guardrails (rules/agreements) that will guide and focus our activities during the next phase. Pro tip: less is more!

Natalie & Michael to share reflections from a recent conversation.

Enabling Constraints: Setting our First Guardrails (45 mins) [10:35 - 11:20]
